Shakespeare Comes To Singapore

Shakespeare's Globe, the celebrated London theatre company, will perform for the first time here at Fort Canning Park in October.

From October 2 to 13, it will present The Taming Of The Shrew with an all-female cast, one that promises to be up close and personal. Audience members in front might even get to lean on the stage - just as they would in a production at the Globe.

The popular Shakespeare play Taming Of The Shrew revolves around a pair of wealthy sisters who are of marriageable age - but they could not be more different. The sweet ingenue Bianca has men lining up for her but her sharp-tongued older sister Katherina (better known as Kate), the titular "shrew", simply refuses to be tied down. The strong-willed Petruchio attempts to do so, and a rambunctious adventure to get her to the altar ensues.

The Reduced Shakespeare Company, will also be returning to perform The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (Abridged)at the DBS Arts Centre from October 1 to 13. They will be performing all 37 plays in 97 minutes.
