Namie Amuro To Perform In Singapore

Often referred to as the teen queen or Queen of Japanese Pop Music, Namie Amuro has made a permanent mark on the Japanese music scene.

Having started out with teen pop group Super Monkeys at just 15 years old, it didn't take long for her to find her own footing as a solo artist. Her first single was Body Feels followed by Chase the Chance released just two months later, becoming her first number-one million-selling single for which she also won the Golden Arrow Award 1995. She soon peppered the airwaves with top singles such as Don't wanna cry,You're My Sunshine, and a walk in the park all of which sold over a million copies each.

Since reinventing herself as a hip-pop singer with her sixth studio album & Queen of Hip-Pop, Amuro has achieved new-found fame and popularity. In 2010, she performed at the World Music Awards as the first Asian female artist, and was awarded Best Asian Artist.

Over a decade after her debut, Amuro has remained one of the most popular female acts in Japan. Her greatest hits album, Best Fiction, spent six consecutive weeks at the number-one position on Japan's Oricon weekly charts, and was awarded Best Album of the Year at the 50th Japan Record Awards. Marking the 20th anniversary of her career, in April 2012, it was announced that Namie Amuro would release a new album ,Uncontrolled. This was the first album to feature several songs sung entirely in English. The album spent three weeks at number one on Oricon's albums chart and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan. This is her fifth consecutive number one album since 2007, and her sixth consecutive double platinum album since 2005. 2013 will see the release of a DVD covering her 2012 5 Major Domes Tour.
