In celebration of International Migrants Day on 18th December, Gateway Arts will be streaming the film, My Invisible Life, for free on YouTube from 1 December 2022 to 18 December 2022!

"This is a real thing. That is why I cried." - Islam Atiqul, Migrant Worker.

"I was very impressed with the way the film was done." Pam Kaur, Migrant Workers' Centre.

"Everyone has their own stories and we shouldn't judge them by simply what we see." Youth, Nanyang Polytechnic.

Synopsis:
Daniel hates being in the spotlight. His classmate Rina is always trying to make Tik Tok videos with him, but he would much rather blend in than stand out.

Elsewhere in the school, Sanjay feels invisible. He works hard on the construction of the school’s sports complex, but he’s ignored by everyone. In a series of unexpected events, the two young men and their very different worlds collide.

The two find that they have more in common than they realised, but their unlikely friendship comes under pressure when Sanjay is accused of theft. Daniel has to make a difficult choice… to remain invisible or to help his new friend…

Written by award-winning playwright Jean Tay and directed by multidisciplinary film director Edward Foo, My Invisible Life is an original theatrical film that draws from the voices and real stories of migrant workers. The film parallels and compares the lives of two young men of the same age from different backgrounds; one, a Chinese Singaporean dealing with pressures from home and school, whilst the other, an Indian national working in Singapore. The show highlights the universal struggles and hopes that everyone experiences regardless of circumstances.
