What if insects could help us manage diabetes? What if every neighbourhood could be dementia-friendly? What if you could travel from airport to airport for healthcare? These are just some of the questions that sparked Healthcare 2030: The Future of Distributed Healthcare, a bold and empathetic take on what our healthcare system could look like in the not too distant future.

The exhibition produced and presented by the students of the Division of Industrial Design and Department of Architecture at the National University of Singapore (NUS) showcases five design solutions created as part of their coursework for the Philips-NUS Studio in 2021.

These innovative solutions ranging from an airport-medical facility and diabetes care hubs to dementia-friendly neighbourhoods, physiotherapy at parks and mental health engagements are the culmination of a 13-week semester where students explored the evolution of healthcare environments in response to changing societal behaviours, cultural norms, accessibility, and new care delivery systems supported by emerging technologies.

Supported by DesignSingapore Council and the National Design Centre, this student-led effort is a brave new expression of healthcare that is noteworthy for its sensitive treatment of the subject and mature design resolution.
