This is a hands-on creative experience that will reverse the conventional book cover design process: instead of creating a cover for a story, participants will create a story from a cover. The process will culminate with the choice of a book title and cover artwork drafts.
Day One (9:30am–12:30pm):
Using real-world book cover projects, the facilitator will engage participants in visual analysis and conceptual discussion of signs and symbols as carriers of meaning.
Day Two (9:30am–5:30pm):
Participants will be asked to write a sentence or words that convey experienced or imagined emotions from which selected words will be used as a kernel for a visual narrative.
The facilitator will guide participants in executing their ideas using resources available such as taking photos of elements in their surroundings or self-portraits with their smartphones, hand-sketching or computer drafting using imagery available online.
This workshop is targeted to professional creatives who want to explore the boundaries between written and visual storytelling.
