68 Dunlop Street, Little India, Singapore
Granada, rustic, gritty, fantastic Granada. That is the city where the story of Zsofi Tapas Bar began.
We checked into the most comfortable of all backpackers inns. It had a roof garden, where Anand and I threw parties under our aliases, Harold and Kumar, with the backpackers inn anointed Whitecastle. It was on this roof garden that we met the lady who inspired the creation of Zsofi Tapas Bar.
Zsofi, of course, is her name.
She was charismatic and beautiful in an under-stated sort of way. We spent hours together, walking, chatting, sharing and laughing. During our time, we frequented many tapas bars where we got tipsy with Sangria. We filled our bellies with free tapas and inevitably grew closer to each other.
It was unforgettable; she was unforgettable.
Unfortunately, time caught up with us and part, we had to.
We did not exchange contact details.
It seemed like a silly romantic thing to do, keeping our perfect time together encased in an untouchable memory.
As Anand and I left with heavy hearts, we realised that the easygoing tapas culture in Granada was the catalyst for our surreal experience.
We decided there and then that we would bring that tapas culture to Singapore. There was no question then, that this Tapas Bar would be named after that special someone - Zsofi.
