"Fire in Snow" Theme for Chingay Parade

Chingay 2013 celebrates the strength of the human spirit in the face of life's challenges. Themed "Fire in Snow", it presents a dazzling spectacle of fire as a symbol of power, passion, dynamism and determination. In contrast, the cold, harsh snow symbolises struggles and hardships, which are overcome by fire's indistinguishable light of hope.

Lighting the Fires of Hope Serene music fills the night air and creates a mood of calm as 3000 performers light the firepots, transforming the entire parade route into a breathtaking ocean of fire. The sense of drama builds with the entrance of 400 tai chi sword performers who put on a mesmerising choreographic display around the flickering words, accompanied by a live performance of the Song of Righteousness.

To the haunting strains of The Phantom of the Opera, dancers in operatic costumes and masks take centre stage, expressing Western traditions and display a true fusion of style and culture! Watch the kaleidoscope of deafening firecrackers, swirling pyrotechnics, dancing dragons spewing fire from their mouths and many more!

Hope Transcends Culture...Singapore's Malay and Indian communities add more than a touch of colour and joy to the celebrations as they work towards love and acceptance. Members from 15 GRCs, CDCs, PA Councils and community organisations join forces to put on a stunning show of community spirit expressed through different interest groups.

As the lights dim, a touching scene unfolds as the spectators invited from Chair for a Cause move forward bearing 2000 fire torches to relight the firepots. In the midst of this fiery fresco stand three captivating floats; lion float representing courage, condor float representing resilience, and a god of fire float representing the light of hope.
