The Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra (TSO) is proud to serve the people of our region by providing engaging performances and meaningful educational programs of the highest quality. During the 2011-12 season, the TSO will present a five-concert subscription series, a Chamber Orchestra concert in Thomasville (GA), a Young People’s Concert, a POPs in the Park event, and several other musical events. We provide a variety of educational programs for both young and old.

Thanks in large part to Florida State University and its outstanding faculty as well as very talented community musicians, the TSO brings an extremely high-level concert experience to its patrons. Founded in 1979 by Nicholas Harsanyi, the TSO grew under his leadership until his death in 1987. David Hoose became the Orchestra’s third music director in 1993. After 11 years at the helm of the TSO, Maestro Hoose retired after the 2004-2005 season, and a conductor search carried out during the 2005-2006 season ended successfully with the appointment of Maestra Miriam Burns as the fourth TSO music director. Her debut with the orchestra occurred on October 14, 2006.

We are always grateful to have the generous support of interns and volunteers throughout the year. If you are interested in donating your time to the TSO, please call our office at (850) 224-0461.

The Board of Directors, with Sean Singleton serving as President, oversees the activities of Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. The Board of the TSO is a group of hard-working volunteers who are active in our community and who are committed to serving its artistic needs.

The Tallahassee Symphony Society was formed in 1993 to support the programs of the TSO through a variety of fundraising activities. The Symphony Society is open to any community member who wishes to participate.

The TSO is a member of the League of American Orchestras and is funded by the generous support of friends, businesses and private foundations. The Symphony receives public support from the Florida Department of State, the Florida Arts Council, and the City of Tallahassee.
