Seekor Singa, Seorang Putera, Dan Sebingkai Cermin: Reflecting and Refracting Singapura
This special exhibition explores Singapore’s significance in the maritime world through various Malay world perspectives and indigenous material culture, juxtaposing them against European colonial sources as a means to examine the history of Singapore prior to British and Dutch occupation in the Malay archipelago.
Through resurfacing these earlier histories, narratives and representations, the exhibition presents multiple contexts to explain how the Malay community in 19th century Singapore came to be, and aims to expand historiographies of Singapore and its connections to the region.
