Jazz Association (Singapore) is proud to present its inaugural Pinnacle Concert by the Jazz Association Singapore Orchestra (JASSO). The concert is a culmination of JASSO’s efforts and experience in pursuit of jazz excellence, and will showcase the finesse and sophistication achieved by JASSO in its two-year history. The arrangements, while very listenable, are sophisticated and challenging at times and will display the orchestra’s virtuosity in technique and skill.

Titled “Pinnacle Concert 2019: A Jazzy Bicentennial Commemoration of Singapore-UK Friendship,” the concert has as its theme the Bicentennial of Singapore-UK friendship. The repertoire traverses songs which relate to both the Singapore and British experiences, and well-loved jazz standards. Newly-commissioned arrangements and compositions will also be featured, including one collaborative-composition between a Singapore composer and a UK composer.

Led by Music Director Jeremy Monteiro with Associate Music Director Weixiang Tan, the concert will feature top vocalist Tina May from the UK as well as well-known and established Singaporean vocalists, Louis Soliano and Alemay Fernandez. Other guest musicians from the UK include Alan Barnes, who has twice been named BBC Jazz Musician of the Year, and Trumpeter Henry Lowther, best known for his work with jazz luminaries Kenny Wheeler and the great British jazz icon Johnny Dankworth. On lead trumpet is Tom Walsh, who despite having been a professional musician for only a few years, is already placed with some of the top names in music business, including Quincy Jones.
