M1 Peer Pleasure Youth Theatre Festival 2019, Singapore’s only annual theatre festival is created to develop and showcase more original works by youths so that they can communicate their unique perspectives on relevant social issues and contribute to a richer understanding of the world we live in.
The Community Theatre from Beyond Social Services will be performing a full-length piece titled "The Block Party" at the festival. It is directed by Rizman Putra and assisted by Izzaty Ishak. Many of the youths from The Community Theatre are from low-income families and they hope that with the performance, they would be able to tell their personal story on the issues of poverty.
Below is the main synopsis of the performance:
What makes a party happening?
Do we need food, music, people and space?
What if we don’t have any of them?
Can we still party?
The Block Party is a docu-performance that unravels issues often blindsided and misrepresented. Assemble with the tribe and embrace the discomfort as we celebrate small joys among our struggles. Ready to party?
The performance has some mature content and will be 1 hour and 15 minutes long with no intermission. It will be performed in English with some Malay and Mandarin; with subtitles. There will also be a 30min post-show dialogue.
