Singapore Art Society celebrates her 70th Anniversary this year by holding her annual art exhibition. The art exhibition is appropriately themed “In Celebration of the Lunar New Year 2019”, to welcome and embrace ‘Spring’.

On display are the oils and acrylics steeped in traditional foundation; yet exude personal mastery of the Western medium. Textural strokes in abstract expressionism or bursts of warmth in a bustling local scene, these are just some exquisitely executed masterpieces in their respective prowess to commemorate such lush celebrations during the festive season.

There will be contemporary paintings in ink and calligraphies. These artists have been trained in Chinese ink at a young age and have created new traits of painting. Being inspired by the current art scene in modern times and the pioneering first and second generation of artists. Their Chinese ink paintings are filled with hints of Western art elements, are reminders of tradition that complement today’s modern environment. Their mastery of balancing paint and water are evident from the control of ink wash in their creations.

The curated set of works was specially chosen to reflect our roots and culture. A nostalgic remembrance of how we celebrate, past and present, as we develop as a nation, many of these traditions are lost. The showcase also aims to promote and encourage visitors to widen their artistic knowledge and appreciation of homegrown artistic talents, at the same time relive past memories.
