In conjunction with Deciphering Food: You are what you eat exhibition, join us for a lunchtime treat and learn how Jamu is made in this one of a kind culinary workshop by our specialist, Ms Ajuntha Anwari.

Create a meal using traditional herbs and spices easily found in Singapore which are often used as household remedies in Indonesia. Get a hands-on experience at how the Indonesian traditional medicine of Jamu is made through a fun and informative workshop with our instructor.

Deciphering Jamu Menu:
Jamu tea tonic
Rice salad, Nasi Ulam

Workshop details:
At this workshop you will experience the taste and texture of Jamu in a special tonic and a local Malay herbal salad called ‘nasi ulam’.

Flow of workshop:
- History and philosophy of Jamu.
- Experience the fresh and dried herbs and plants
- Demonstration of a tea tonic and the rice salad, nasi ulam.
- Participant activity – making nasi ulam and coconut chutney.
- Resource list – Jamu pharmacy and local markets in Singapore and recipe of nasi ulam and coconut chutney.
