'Tropical Philanthropy' involves JCU students and alumni in a series of short field trips in Southeast Asia to learn and engage in philanthropic projects.
The 2018 field trip to Sarawak, Borneo, was based on the theme of sustainability—natural and cultural. It involved the student volunteers in a series of activities: engaging with indigenous weaving and cultural heritage projects; visiting an orang utan sanctuary; hiking in a national park and staying in a homestay set up by indigenous people; and an inter-university student networking lunch.
The public lecture and exhibition of digital photographs will showcase student’s engagement.
*Photos and video will be taken during the event for news and various publicity purposes.
