The musicians of The Philharmonic Winds, led by conductor Robert Casteels, will bring the audience on a musical sojourn with a selection of chamber music by top Japanese composers, with the spotlight on Toru Takemitsu’s works.

Don’t miss some of Takemitsu’s most intriguing works, such as Day Signals, Signals from Heaven I and Night Signals, and Signals from Heaven II. As special treats for the audience, Itinerant will feature Andy Koh on solo flute, and conductor Dr Robert Casteels will perform on solo piano for Piano Distance.

Other pieces featured include pieces for mixed ensembles, including Onijime: A Beautiful Ghost by Shuhei Tamura and La Structure pour L’octuor by Masamicz Amano. In particular, Masanori Taruya’s A Picture Book Without A Picture will feature the clarinet octet, and there will be two solo alto saxophone pieces featuring two different soloists: Night Bird by Karen Tanaka (performed by Ang Yixiang) and Improvisation II by Ryo Noda (performed by Samuel Phua).

Rounding up the concert, Yasuhide Ito’s Four Seasons of Japanese Children’s Songs will surely bring a smile to your face and his One Thousand Broken Musical Instruments for mixed ensemble and narrator will steal your heart.
