You need not travel more than 4,000 km to visit the UNESCO World Heritage 1,000-year-old Dunhuang Mogao Caves in China.

Come October, the exhibition on ’The Lotus Sutra - A Message of Peace and Harmonious Coexistence’ will be travelling to Singapore to the Arts House, featuring Dunhuang which was at its zenith a centre for the fusion of trade, cultures and religions from the East and the West, as well as knowledge exchange amongst China, ancient India, ancient Greece and Central Asia.

The exhibition aims to bring across a brilliant philosophy of hope transcending time and space, and teaches that all people possess the intrinsic equality of all human beings.

Beyond the philosophical sphere, the exhibition inherently showcases a kaleidoscope of ancient history, literature, cultural heritage and the arts, as the exhibition chronicles through the centuries – the history of the transmission of the Lotus Sutra along the Silk Road from India to various parts of Asia.

“The Lotus Sutra – A Message of Peace and Harmonious Coexistence” Exhibition is jointly organised by The Institute of Oriental Philosophy (Japan), Dunhuang Academy (China), and Singapore Soka Association; and supported by The Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the International Academy of Indian Culture. Singapore is the 16th country to host this international and archaeologically-rich exhibition that has been touring the world since 2006.

On display are rarely seen manuscripts, reproductions of relics which include vivid illustrations, photographs, and more than 100 pieces of precious artefacts of over a few hundred years old, and exquisite replicas of mural paintings in the Dunhuang Mogao Caves.

Key Highlights of the Lotus Sutra Exhibition:

- Experience walking through a section of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, China
- Sunday Lecture series by local and overseas guest speakers on topics related to the exhibition
- Children’s Corner with activities

Admission is free.
