Sport in Singapore have had a lot to celebrate. Singapore hosted the Southeast Asian Games on home soil in 2015 and achieved its best ever performance. Singapore won its first ever Olympic gold medal in Swimming at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016. Singapore achieved its best ever away Southeast Asian Games performance in the recent 2017 games held in Kuala Lumpur.

The Singapore Sport Institute (SSI) welcomes you to the Singapore Sport Science Symposium 2017. This symposium serves to celebrate the progress that we have made as a sporting nation with you. The theme for this year’s symposium is ‘From youth to elite sport—harnessing potential and the pursuit of excellence’. Harnessing the potential of youth athletes depends on a multitude of bio-psychosocial, environmental and contextual factors. Pursuing excellence to achieve podium success requires constant fine-tuning of our sport ecosystem, supporting our coaches and athletes holistically, and injecting progressive and leading edge sport science and medicine to enhance our athletes’ training programs.

SSI will be sharing on the utility of various sport science and medicine disciplines to optimize daily training and prepare elite athletes for competitions on the 1st and 2nd of November. The National Youth Sports Institute (NYSI) will separately be sharing on youth athlete development on the 3rd of November.

We look forward to hosting you at the Singapore Sport Science Symposium 2017 to deepen our shared learnings as we continue to enable the ecosystem for our athletes to Inspire the Singapore Spirit through their performances, and for Singaporeans to Live Better Through Sport.
