This September, the Singapore Heart Foundation is organising the Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society (APHRS) Public Education Forum 2017, to raise awareness on Atrial Fibrillation (AF) with a focus on sudden cardiac death (SCD). Gracing the event will be Guest of Honour, Ms Joan Pereira, Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC.

AF is the most common type of rapid and irregular heart rhythm that affects 1 to 2% of Singapore’s population and it may even cause a stroke or heart failure. A sudden onset of an abnormal heart rhythm can also lead to an abrupt loss of the heart function, resulting in SCD. It is estimated that about 1,000 Singaporeans die from SCD every year, half of whom are below the age of 60. The speakers at the forum will share more on how to prevent AF, as well as understanding and preventing SCD.

There are two sessions, one hosted in English and another in Mandarin. The topics and speakers for each session are as follows:

Topics and Speakers for English session (Sold out):
- What is Atrial Fibrillation, why does it occur and can it be prevented?
Adjunct Assistant Professor Ho Kah Leng
- Understanding and preventing sudden cardiac death
Dr Kelvin Wong Cheok Keng

Speakers for Mandarin session:
- Dr Chee Tek Siong
- Assistant Professor Lim Toon Wei

In addition to the exclusive goodie bag worth $50 (limited to one per person), there will also be light refreshments for all participants. Stand a chance to win attractive prices at the lucky draw! While the English session is sold out, there are seats available for the Mandarin session, so get your tickets at the Singapore Heart Foundation’s main office at 9 Bishan Place, #07-01 Junction 8 (Office Tower), Singapore 579837 now!
