Led by Music Director Ms Josephine Koh, NUS Harmonica Orchestra will perform a tribute medley to celebrate Singapore’s golden jubilee. The works include orchestral pieces such as Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Shostakovich’s March, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, and The Prayer, depicting the life journey of Mr Lee, his love story with Mrs Kwa Geok Choo, his political endeavours and his dedication to Singapore. All works are specially arranged by members of the Orchestra to commemorate Mr Lee’s legacy and the success of Singapore’s nation building as a city-state that strives towards excellence.
Generations of musical talents nurtured by this 35-year-old Orchestra are participating in various capacities, from harmonica players and soloists, to tutors and music arrangers. The Orchestra’s wide repertoire ranges from oriental folk music to classical symphonic works, popular music, jazz and film music. The annual Soirée series features orchestral pieces arranged by talented members of the group and professional composers.
