How can I tell you my name with my body? Can you read this flicker of my wrist as you would an open book? What can my body tell you about the book you are reading?

This one-hour workshop and showing by dancer-choreographers Wayne Ong and Leia Ang look at how the human body can offer alternative readings of written texts through using and combining a variety of movement styles. Wayne and Leia will explore how hand and sign gestures of the everyday can be transformed into a choreographic language that uses the entire body.

This session showcases the developmental process of a new inter-disciplinary work Shortcut Dreams commissioned by Noise Singapore, conceptualised and produced by Global Cultural Alliance Ltd, co-curated with Laniakea Culture Collective and choreographed by Wayne and Leia. The work draws from texts by Singapore theatre doyen Kuo Pao Kun and well-known poet and NAC-NTU Writer in Residence 2015-2016 Pooja Nansi.

For ages 15 and above.

This workshop is held in conjunction with Got to Move and is one of two sessions that will provide an insight into the creative process of Pop-Up Noise: Shortcut Dreams happening on 19 November at Waterway Point. The second session at the Singapore Writers Festival will explore the abstraction of emotions from literary texts and how these can become choreographic tools.

The event will be at the Dance Nucleus.
