Let us take you on an incredible musical journey where the power of Flamenco meets the beauty of the classical voice. Misa Flamenca, this year’s Singapore Flamenco Festival 2016 highlight, combines the Chants of the Catholic High Mass, sung by a classical choir with appropriate songs of the Flamenco repertoire in a cadenza-like style. The guitar makes it all meld together while the dance becomes an extended movement of the written word.

In 1971 Antonio Vargas presented an original version of the Misa Flamenca in the Llangollen Festival in Wales then later in the London Festival Hall in 1972. In 1995, Antonio revived this work to perform in major cathedrals in Germany and Europe with sold out tours.

This year, six years after presenting Flamenco Cantata in Chjimes Hall to rave reviews, maestro Antonio Vargas once again collaborates with Dr Robert Casteels and a choral ensemble of 8 singers led by Leslie Tay, to present a fascinating repertoire combining choral voices with Flamenco music and dance. The performance by the Flamenco Sin Fronteras company with flamenco musicians Antonio Soria and Sergio Muñoz, includes new works and a specially commissioned choreographic piece by award winning choreographer Manuel Liñan from Spain.

This program is eligible for the Tote Board Arts Grant subsidy
