This is a 5 hour intensive workshop limited to maximum of 15 people. You will get personal input with this wonderful opportunity to work closely with Hollywood writer, award winning stand up comedian and television host, Simon Taylor.

Simon is the host on Australia's Channel 31’s late night talk show Live on Bowen and Beat Streets with Simon Taylor. His exceptional writing talent has found him being a writer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on NBC and Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell on the ABC.

This course covers a basic approach to writing short-form jokes. It looks at the mechanics behind formulating jokes, styles of comedy and how to approach commercial comedy writing.

Learning outcomes:

- You will know a wide range of joke writing formulas to draw upon
- You will understand a systematic approach to writing comedy about anything
- You'll understand how to write different comedic voices
- You'll get tips on how to approach commercial joke writing
- Understanding these writing tools will allow you to apply them to your stand-up

The session will take place in the Victoria and Albert private rooms upstairs at The Penny Black, Boat Quay. Penny Black has a full F&B menu for you to enjoy - no outside F&B is permitted. Water will be provided.
