Opportunities to helm one’s solo art exhibition are hard to come by, especially for emerging artists. This September, three rising stars from the Southeast Asian art fraternity have been given the chance to debut their solo exhibitions at the Young Talent Programme 2014/15 Winners’ Solo Exhibitions. The Young Talent Programme is a collaboration between ION Art and Affordable Art Fair Singapore. This is the third edition of the Winners’ Solo Exhibitions.

Inaugurated in 2012, the Young Talent Programme is an ION Art collaboration with the annual November edition of the Affordable Art Fair Singapore, providing a platform for talented young artists to be spotted by galleries and art institutions, as well as to be introduced to the art-loving public. This is a two-part award programme: an open call is sent each August inviting artists to apply to the Programme. From applications received, six to eight artists are selected by the Young Talent Programme Selection Committee to exhibit at the Affordable Art Fair Singapore in November, and from there, two to three artists are shortlisted to work with the Programme’s project curator to present the Winners’ Solo Exhibitions in the ION Art gallery the following September.

This year’s featured artists are Singaporeans Ezekiel Wong Kel Win and Zhang Fuming, both 26, as well as 24 year-old Burmese Khin Thethtar Latt.

Find out more about the inspiration behind each solo exhibition with a tour led by the artists themselves, or try your hand at woodblock printing and creating GIFs over the weekends.
