A commemorative show celebrating 50 years of nationhood will invariably have work marking nostalgic times gone by or a dynamic present, and feature familiar urbanscapes of what was, or what is. Time and Place is a suitable catch-all title then to describe our date with a momentous past in an energetic present.

A Place Behind My Eyes is an exhibition by 21 year old, Yeo Tze Yang. Tze Yang’s artworks depicts a sense of maturity and depth which is inspired by his surroundings and the daily events in his life. He wishes for the audience to see beyond the artwork, and for them to be abe to feel the emotions and sentiments he had felt during the process of creating them.

Andre Tan’s 国父 Father of the Nation, is a collection of artworks honoring Singapore’s First Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Focusing on LKY during his thirties, the exhibition is a response and tribute to his governance and vision, capturing the significant moments such as political rallies and election victories. Andre’s artworks uses his trademark pop stylisations of graphic outlines and strong colors which builds up into several layers producing a magnificent finish – much like Singapore’s colorful and rich history, as only Mr Lee could have imagined.

Gambar Gambar is a collection of artworks from artist Martin Loh. Using his imagination and greatly influenced by the Peranakan culture, he created recurrent themes including that of the Peranakan matriarch and her offspring, fantastical flora and fauna, shophouse settings and facades. Martin’s artworks reflect the vibrant colors, charms and details of a former era by means of his unique painting styles.

Opening reception for the exhibition will be on Friday, 7 August 2015, 7 pm, food and drinks will be served. Members of the press are most welcome to attend.

Besides the solo shows, there will also be a mixed group show to feature the works by local artists depicting their take on Singapore.
