Expressions of a Nation SG50

Having created itself from scratch in a single generation, Singapore is part theme park and part grand social experiment. The idea of Singapore as a separate political entity is quite recent, the city was part of the Malayan Federation, which gained independence from Britain in 1963,

While societal planning has a dismal track record worldwide, Singapore is one lone success. It all started in the 1960’s tiny, a resource-poor, racially divided country dependent on less-than-friendly neighbors for food and even drinking water. With the steadfast leadership of the Stalwart Mr. Lee Kuan Yew by 2001 Singapore is a country that has become one the richest states in the world, boasts a superb quality of life, and has rigorously avoided the ethnic strife which plagues almost every other multi-ethnic nation

Singapore's leaders reacted in a manner completely unlike the corrupt venality or shortsighted demagoguery we so often associate with politicians; they were more like university professors working on a case study. They simply planned out their long-term vision for the new nation and set it on course.

Rising from rags to riches in three short decades, Singapore managed to create for itself an enviable combination of towering financial centers, lush green spaces, high class shopping malls and down home hawker centers.

Singaporeans across diverse communities in the act of reflecting, interacting and expressing their thoughts, feelings and hopes for the nation have been caught and encapsulated by Lakshmi in her art, the Exhibition “Expressions SG50” encapsulates the emotions of the people of Singapore in the last 50 years journey which has not been easy, there were moments of Joy, Fright, Sadness, Anger all such emotion’s are Singing through Lakshmi’s Brush and paint in her compilation of Paintings.
