Building on its inaugural experience 'The Art of Speed’, this year’s The Big Draw features bigger
spaces and more activities with visual artists, makers and performers to celebrate drawing
together. Highlights include an interactive installation by Singapore artist Agatha Lee, a dance
performance, and an artist-led photography workshop by Richard Kearns. Activities will be spread
in three areas, the “Playazza” (in front of the Centre), Unit 26 and the Children’s Centre for
Creativity at Block 47.

Weave-A-Story by Agatha Lee
Textile artist, Agatha Lee invites children and parents to collaborate on a large-scale fabric
installation on the Playazza . The interactive installation is free for all to contribute on both days and
includes a workshop in Unit 26, and a display outside on the Playazza.

The Speed of Rhythm: workshops and performance
Join the performance exploring the Speed of Rhythm, and have a go at making your own
instrument, which can be played at different speeds to tell different stories. Workshops will take
place on both days with the performance on Saturday at 4pm.

Sketchers will be setting up their easels and clipboards around the space at different spots,
sketching the building, the scene, or people. Take up a board and join them. They will be happy to
share a tip or two along the way. Three of (1.5 hours) sketching sessions will be available on both
Saturday and Sunday. Please refer to for updates on the timings.

The Drawing Booth
At The Drawing Booth, participants will get a chance to re-interpret Playeum’s Art of Speed artists’
drawings with a twist. Activities include drawing challenges, creating a narrative and collaborative
art-making. Drawings will be displayed as a celebration of “Every Drawing Tells a Story”.

The Speed of Movement
A special dance performance will be held at the “Playazza” on Sunday at 4pm. Children will be
invited to participate by telling a story through dance.

“The Cardboard City”, and artist-led photography workshop “Speed Frozen” by Richard Kearns
During this time, special programmes will also be happening inside the Centre. Our Play Making
Space will be transformed into a large cardboard city, which children and parents are invited to
build throughout the weekend. The Centre features the artist-led photography workshop titled
Speed Frozen, by contemporary artist Richard Kearns. In this workshop, children get a chance to
discover their photographic talent and experiment with capturing speed with their cameras. The
photographs will be then be fed directly onto a screen for a live and large-scale view.

The Big Draw is an international event that reaches out to children as a movement to promote the
value and concept of drawing beyond the traditional pencil-to-paper practice. Founded 11 years
ago in the United Kingdom, the big draw has been held in 2,000 locations worldwide and is loyally
supported by many artistic prodigies such as Quentin Blake, Roger Penrose and David Hockney.
This annual art campaign organised by The Playeum was successfully introduced to Singaporeans
last year. Over 4,500 children and parents attended the first installation by 15 artists and participated in the 25 art activities organised at the event.
