Four playwrights, each of whom have produced acclaimed works despite their young age, mark a new generation of playwriting in Singapore today.

Faith Ng's For Better or for Worse explores the themes of love, relationships and family through the marriage of a middle-aged couple. In their estrangement, lies and manipulation of one another, Ng paints an honest portrait of marriage and the issues that arise from it.

Joel Tan's tender piece about finding love at a later stage in life, The Way We Go is a sensitive meditation on growing up and growing old, that looks at love in places where we least seek it; the love for learning, life, and language; and the love between friends and kindred spirits.

Shiv Tandan's humorous coming-of-age story follows the life of Raghav, from his childhood in a small Indian town to present day Singapore. Inspired by the Bollywood classic, Sholay, The Good, the Bad and the Sholay captures the joys and sorrows of growing up and the changes that come with each stage of life.

Irfan Kasban's Tahan follows police recruit Adil's journey of self-discovery as he meanders through the myths and truths of law enforcement, and learns of the vulnerabilities and weaknesses that officers too can possess.

The plays presented in this reading are selected excerpts from each script.
