ENE Central Asian Art presents ‘New Silk Roads: Painting Beyond Borders’, a groundbreaking exhibition showcasing for the first time in Singapore fine modern and contemporary painting from the Central Asian states of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The exhibition’s main theme revisits a familiar idea – that of the Silk Road or roads – the great network of overland and maritime highways connecting East Asia, through Central Asia, to Europe, since circa 3rd century BC. While building on the notion of the roads as conduits for exchange, the exhibition will however lend a fresh perspective, given the relatively limited exposure which Central Asian artists have had internationally.

The show will contain pieces by four Central Asians (namely Fayzulla Akhmadaliev, Kadirov Gafur Kolbovich, Murat Hojakuliyev and Leyla Mahat) which include cultural medalists with works belonging to national museums and international private collections. Also to be presented in the exhibition are paintings by the up-and-coming Singapore-based Serbian artist Filip Gudovic, who has sojourned in Southeast Asia for over a decade and is ever open to artistic possibilities that come with adjustment to new environments.
