Synopsis

The workshop will explore the origins of Celtic music and trace it's development through the ages. Special emphasis will be placed on the development of the traditional music of one of the seven Celtic nations - Ireland.

The workshop will feature live demonstrations by Darragh Dunleavy, winner of first place on two occasions in Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, the All-Ireland traditional Irish music competition, who will play banjo, mandolin and tenor guitar, and by Singaporean James Chan, an accomplished player of the traditional Irish flute and tin whistle.

BIO
Sharon Dunleavy is an Irish Primary School Principal, currently on career break. She developed a great interest in the Irish language, music and culture from a young age. She sang for eighteen years with Cór Mhaigheo, a mixed voice choir that also contains a core element of traditional Irish singers and musicians. Cór Mhaigheo has performed extensively throughout Europe and Ireland. Sharon sings in Gaelic and English and recorded Mo Ghile Mear on the Castlebar Live and Alive CD in 1999. She plays the tinwhistle, guitar and piano but is best known as a traditional vocalist. She has produced and directed many traditional Irish concerts of young Irish people. She performs regularly with Irish and Singaporean musicians.
