September Bitesize: Appreciating Chinese Dance
By Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Dance Theatre

Chinese dance has its own unique vocabulary, techniques and training that enable a dancer to bring life to a dance piece with ease and grace. If you have ever wondered about the cultural roots of this performing art form, this interactive workshop will help you to understand the different elements that make it so distinctive. Look forward to demonstrations and hands-on guidance on some stylised gestures and movements.

About the Speaker
Neo Jenny, Principal Choreographer of the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Dance Theatre, started her training in chinese classical and folk dance at the age of 10 under the tutelage of her mother, Madam Lim Moi Kim. Jenny graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore, with a BA (Honours) in Dance. She was also awarded grants from the National Arts Council and Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan to further her professional training in choreography at Beijing Dance Academy, China.

Throughout the years, Jenny has been actively choreographing for the company, schools, and national major events like Chingay and National Day. Her latest, and currently ongoing, involvement is choreographing a large-scale dance production titled Returning, conceived and directed by Singapore dance pioneer and Cultural Medallion recipient Goh Lay Kuan, to be performed during the Singapore International Festival of Arts 2015.
