In the month of August, we celebrate the innovation and craftsmanship of singer-songwriters in Singapore. With a fresh line-up of singer-songwriters, solo vocalists and independent groups of musicians, this month’s artists focus on original work, arrangements and the creative process behind making music. These performances offer a peek into the mind and hearts of these musicians as they present and reflect on their musical influences and their journeys as they developed their own unique sounds.

Described by Juice Magazine as possessing "a sandpaper and honeyed voice", French-Mauritian singer-songwriter Jonathan Meur's folk-pop music has drawn comparisons to the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Duncan Sheik and Regina Spektor. Kicking off 2014 with a VIMA nomination for his December by the Isle of You in the Best Pop Song category, Jonathan opens this year’s Writer’s Diary at Esplanade with intimate acoustic creations off his debut EP Woodnotes and his upcoming full-length album.
