SSO's Principal Cellist Ng Pei-Sian brings us Elgar's elegiac Cello Concerto, one of the pillars of the repertoire and the last major work completed by the composer. He will preface this with the short Fantasy for cello and orchestra by Sang Tong (1923-2012), a composer who was also one of the Shanghai Conservatory's most notable teachers. This concert also includes Schumann's First Symphony, a sunny work inspired by the poetic notions of spring.
