Republic Polytechnic’s annual community arts festival Reflections 2014 returns with an exciting line-up of performances, exhibitions and workshops starting from Friday, 24 October till Saturday, 8 November 2014.

The two-week long festival – themed “ArtisTree” – celebrates its eighth edition with a mosaic of performances involving local dance, music and theatre talents as well as international acts who will take to the stage, telling their stories through the performing arts.

Following a successful festival last year where more than 18,000 festival enthusiasts gathered to celebrate Reflections, this year RP will host An evening of Music, Fun and Friends, showcasing upcoming local acts such as pop and soul artiste Gareth Fernandez and jazz musicians Elegant Swing. The polytechnic’s very own bands and musicians who have performed at Baybeats and the Esplanade will also put on a series of curated songs.

The highlight of the festival will be Balinese dance troupe Bengkel Tari Ayu Bulan. The ensemble will present a renewed interpretation of an old Chinese folklore tale of two star-crossed lovers through a traditional dance characterized by intricate movements and expressive gestures, Legong. With music accompaniment by Gamelan Asmaradana Asia and RP’s very own percussion group Gamelan Naga Kencana, the famed Balinese art will demonstrate its captivating allure.

Also on the calendar is MUSE VII – an annual highlight of Reflections – which will see RP’s dance talents collaborate and fuse different dance forms to create a unique and synergized choreography.

Experience an indulgent fortnight of visual and aural arts where RP celebrates how art bridges all cultures to tell the legacies of its people.
