Inspire Curiosity And A Love For Language And Mystery This Holiday

Expand your child’s imagination and inspire a love for the English language through Mystery-themed holiday programmes at Julia Gabriel Centre this December. The Secret Garden (Nursery 1 and 2)
Uncover the mysteries of how little Betsy Butterfly, Freddy Frog and Sammy Snail live together in the Secret Garden through poems, rhymes and drama. Created to develop social and communication skills, this Speech & Drama programme will encourage children to interact and collaborate with peers as they work together to save the Secret Garden when it comes under attack from the Big Ones. Children will also build literacy skills through art and craft and pre-writing activities.

Putting creativity, wit and thinking skills to good use, children will work with fellow Mystery Makers in creating new games for the carnival such as riddles, alphabet codes, puzzles and guidelines for each game. Children will have the opportunity to develop listening, reading, writing and speaking skills as they discuss and develop ideas in this exciting Readers & Writers holiday programme.

Lost In Time (Primary 1 to 3)
Embark on a mission to rescue a team of intrepid time travellers who are trapped in a Time Machine which has gone berserk, ricocheting between the past, present and future. Travelling through time – cracking codes, writing secret messages, discovering the origins of language and experiencing how it can evolve over time – students will learn to escape the past by understanding cave drawings and hieroglyphics and exploring how technology could change life in the future. Using fiction and non-fiction texts, students will explore ancient Egypt, the Ice Age, medieval England and a time in the future where robots rule the world.

Students will chronicle their journey in a travel log and create a time capsule to preserve their experiences and memories in this holiday programme, which provides a taste of the centre’s Speech & Drama as well as Readers & Writers programmes.
