Singaporean woodwind quintet EDQ and pianist Nicholas Loh returns to the Esplanade once again, this time to present music from a time closer to the present. Join them as they discover and deconstruct the Modern and Postmodern woodwind chamber works of the 20th century and beyond; works that may at first seem bizarre and difficult to understand, but nonetheless built on a strong adherence to form, logic and tradition.

Formed in December 2011, EDQ is more than a woodwind quintet. The resident members include Jasper Goh (flute), Benjamin Wong (clarinet), Veda Lin (oboe), Emerald Chee (bassoon) and Alan Kartik (french horn); three of whom will perform in the concert, with guest artists Cheryl Lim (flute) and Leow Rui Qing (oboe). Besides performing works from the woodwind quintet genre, the group has also performed works for sextet and smaller chamber combinations, ranging from duos to quartets, as well as arrangements of piano music. Having won the Tapio Tuomela Prize for the best interpretation of the commissioned piece at the 7th Henri Tomasi International Woodwind Quintet Competition (2013) in Marseille, EDQ has since been eager to explore and perform more contemporary chamber works.
