Directing a play is a multi-faceted task. This beginner’s workshop focuses on the creative aspects of directing a scripted play for the stage and explores the work of the director in the rehearsal room such as the role of a director, the process of directing, and the relationship between the director and the cast.
Join us as theatre director Claire Wong shares her insights and creates fun exercises for participants to understand and learn how to direct.

Claire Wong, co-founder and Joint Artistic Director of Checkpoint Theatre, is trained in both Asian and Western performing arts with a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Columbia University. She has recently directed For Better or For Worse by Faith Ng, Huzir Sulaiman’s Occupation and co-directed Dream Country: a lost monologue for the Singapore Arts Festival 2012. As an actress, Claire has been acclaimed for her memorable one-woman performance in Madame Mao’s Memories, and participated in international arts festivals such as Edinburgh Fringe, Telstra Adelaide Arts Festival and Theatre der Welt.
