Hailed in 2011 as "one of the top three performances in Singapore" by The Straits Times, T.H.E Artistic Director Kuik Swee Boon brings T.H.E Dance Company's landmark production As It Fades back to vivid life this May 2014!

Centred on the themes of rediscovering memories and heritage, the strength of this restaged piece lies in the delicate balance between the traditional and contemporary; Asian culture and Western practice. As It Fades draws upon forgotten Hainanese folk tunes, dialects, and memories collected from the dancers and their parents to create an emotionally-charged language that reawakens memories buried deep within our bodies and connects us to a fading Asian heritage.

Notable accolades received for its Singapore Arts Festival 2011 premiere:

- The Straits Times lauded Kuik for his "urgent, intense, profound" choreographic voice, translating into a style that is "strong, articulate and, unmistakably, Asian."

- Lianhe Zaobao noted that As It Fades had the ability to "evoke deep cultural nostalgia, powerfully reawakening memories long lost and faded."

Since its critically acclaimed premiere at the Singapore Arts Festival 2011, As It Fades has toured extensively to various countries, including Malaysia, China, Italy and Denmark. It was also the festival closing performance at the prestigious Les Hivernales Festival in Avignon, France in 2012.

The 2014 restaging of As It Fades looks set to bring this well-loved work to greater heights, featuring music by Bani Haykal of acclaimed local group The Observatory alongside recordings of Hainanese folk songs and spoken Cantonese dialogue, and performed by an extended cast of T.H.E main and second company dancers. Its timeless appeal endures to resonate with young and old alike!
