Vusi Mahlasela, known simply as "The Voice" in South Africa. Charles Bradley, with his anguished, heartrending howl. Two elder statesmen of folk and soul in one emotionally charged evening of music that crashes straight into the centre of your heart.
Vusi Mahlasela is celebrated for his distinct, powerful voice and his poetic, optimistic lyrics. His songs of hope connect Apartheid-scarred South Africa with its promise for a better future. After his popular debut on BMG Africa, When You Come Back, Vusi was asked to perform at Nelson Mandela's inauguration in 1994. After world-wide touring and international acclaim, Dave Matthews signed Mahlasela to his own ATO Records label. Mahlasela's latest album Say Africa, produced by Taj Mahal and recorded at Dave Matthews' studio in Charlottesville, VA, captures Vusi's hope for the future of Africa.
Charles Bradley transcended a bleak life on the streets and struggled through a series of ill-fitting jobs-most famously as a James Brown impersonator in Brooklyn, USA-before being discovered by Daptone's Gabe Roth. He released his debut No Time For Dreaming and the following year brought one triumph after another: a stunning performance at South By Southwest that earned unanimous raves; gripping appearances at Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Newport Folk Festival and Outside Lands; and spots on year-end best lists from Rolling Stone, MOJO, GQ, and more. Bradley's latest album Victim of Love is a continuation of his love story, moving past the heartache and pain and closer to the promise of hope.
