Bruckner Symphony No. 3 in D minor (60’)

In 1873 Bruckner paid a visit to Richard Wagner to offer him the dedication of either his Second or Third Symphony; Wagner chose the latter, thus earning it the nickname, the “Wagner Symphony”. Originally containing references to some of Wagner’s music, it was to undergo several revisions even after its premiere in Vienna in 1877.

Cellist Wang Jian joins the SSO in this concert for Schumann’s Cello Concerto, a sublime masterpiece revealing the composer’s special affection for the instrument.
