Intermission
Bruckner Symphony No. 3 in D minor (60’)
In 1873 Bruckner paid a visit to Richard Wagner to offer him the dedication of either his Second or Third Symphony; Wagner chose the latter, thus earning it the nickname, the “Wagner Symphony”. Cellist Wang Jian joins the SSO in this concert for Schumann’s Cello Concerto, a sublime masterpiece revealing the composer’s special affection for the instrument.
