In Cantonese with English Subtitles

Dai-ming (Patrick Tse Yin) and Tsui-hong (Patsy Kar Ling) elope to Hong Kong, but Dai-ming soon falls ill. On his death bed, he begs Tsui-hong to pay for his younger brother Chi-ming's (also played by Tse) studies in Australia. Years later, Chi-ming returns to Hong Kong and falls for Tsui-hong - now a well-known courtesan - not knowing that she was his late brother's girlfriend.

Scriptwriter Wu Mei-ping inserts a refreshingly modern twist in creating the character of Tsui-hong as a strong-willed, multi-layered heroine whose feelings for Chi-ming is not driven by simple love, but rather a sense of maternal love and physical desire. The film’s depiction of a woman’s impetus in love was considered a genre breakthrough in the world of Cantonese Cinema.
