The Rouge Tigress is the inaugural production by the Kong Ngee Motion Picture Production Company spearheaded by director Chun Kim.

The film is an exceptional tale of vengeance in which a girl moulds herself into the likeness of her mother who committed suicide after being abandoned by a local gangster. She avenges her mother by driving a wedge between the gangster and his son (Patrick Tse) through skilful seduction, and eventually provokes the son to kill his father. The role of a symbolic, sacrificial lamb under an unflinching patriarchal system shot Patrick Tse to fame and cemented his star power in many popular Cantonese films.
