Lap-bun (Patrick Tse) is a caddish broker whose only desire is to marry a woman with substantial dowry. His plan goes awry when he mistakes the nurse of a rich heiress, Cherry, (Patsy Kar Ling) for the heiress herself. The illusion is shattered on the night of the wedding leading to Lap-bun's remorseful realisation of true love.

Kong Ngee's successful spate of "odd-couple" films reached a turning point with Spring Appears, before giving way to themes of brotherhood in more gritty social dramas such as The Dreadnaught (1966) and Story of a Discharged Prisoner (1967).
