Tokyo-based multi-disciplinary artist Hiroaki Umeda presents two hypnotic works that fuse motion with astonishing sonic and light-scapes. One of Japan’s most exciting experimental artists, Umeda mixes butoh, hip-hop and digital technology to create multi-sensory works at once minimal and provocative.
Choreographed by Umeda, Temporal Pattern examines the connections and plurality of three vastly different traditional dancers from Taiwan, India and Cambodia. The dancers are bathed in an electric light show of running lines, dancing to an ordered movement system, while expressing their own individual dance styles.
In Holistic Strata, Umeda’s solo goes one step further to present a compelling vision of dance as multi-sensory visual installation. With tightly-composed cheoreography, Umeda dances within an explosive canvas of light particles, digital images, video and sonic beats.
Moving between dizzying velocity and sublime stillness, Temporal Pattern & Holistic Strata will expand your perspectives of dance with an enveloping technodelic world of sound, light and movement.
Temporal Pattern was commissioned by the National Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Centre and Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay of Singapore
