With an equal mix of pathos and gut-busting comedy, TANDA MATA MAK takes its cue from the familiar tale of Cinderella and injects a good dose of Peranakan flavour into it. Find out what's up the (kebaya) sleeves of meddling matriarchs and other well-meaning characters in this story of the star-crossed lovers, Roland Tan and Nya Putih.

By filtering it through the lens of a Peranakan community, TANDA MATA MAK presents a classic tale of love in its many manifestations: familial love, platonic love and romantic love.

For the Peranakans, wayang theatre is not just mindless entertainment; it is also a way of life. Art imitates life and, quite often -- some Peranakans will have you know -- life imitates art as well. Dramatic, flamboyant and in your face, wayang theatre is an unique art form that captures the lives and voices of characters immediately recognisable to Peranakans.

Gunong Sayang Association or GSA ('gunong sayang' means 'mountain of love') has been the champion of this art form for the past century, giving a platform for performers and wayang lovers to carry on this legacy of giving expression to the multifaceted Peranakan identity.

GSA’s latest offering Tanda Mata Mak, or Heirloom, promises a wild ride of gossip, squabbles and, more importantly, true love. This familiar story of star-crossed lovers served with a distinct Peranakan twist will delight any viewer, young and old alike.
