Since the discovery of Electricity and Magnetism, scientists had thought that they were two independent phenomena. That view was changed after Hans Christian Oersted observed a compass needle being deflected from the magnetic North when the electric current from a nearby battery was switched on. This discovery led to intense research in the field of Electromagnetism by renowned scientists such as Andre Marie Ampere, Michael Faraday and James Clerk Maxwell.
Today, the applications of Electricity and Electromagnetism are very much a part of our daily lives; they are found almost everywhere; in household appliances, automobiles, factory equipment and national infrastructures.
This half a day workshop aims to provide GCE ‘O’ level students with fundamental knowledge of Electricity and Electromagnetism. It is conducted using an interactive “Show & Tell” approach that enhances students’ understanding of the subject matter and gives them the opportunity to learn through experiment.
