Co-presented by The Arts House and The Academy Pte Ltd, in conjunction with Singapore HeritageFest2013
Through this exhibition and audio art installation, we invite you to take a closer and intimate look at the people and places of our beloved street food culture. The show offers a rare first-hand actual auditory and visual account of the inspirational interviews and quotes direct from Singapore’s beloved hawkers.
The soundbites of the hawkers are presented through digital playback of live interview recordings and a moving montage. The exhibition showcases an exclusive collection of photographs on the vanishing craft of handmade hawker fare, as well as rare family portraitures of first and multi-generational heritage hawkers taken on-site at their stalls.
The exhibition is a fitting celebration of who we are, as well as how we eat and socialise as Singaporeans. It is also a glowing tribute to the resilience of an entire generation of street food vendors and their contribution to our street food culture.
Proudly curated and compiled by the Heritage Hawker documentary team over two-and-a-half years, these soundbites and exclusive collection of photographs are based on stories and interviews taken from the Heritage Hawker project and held as part of its official book launch.
