About Ishka

Ishka's creations epitomizes style, craftsmanship & eminence

Ishka is a journey of fabrics with art, culture and tradition. It is a classic way of life shaped into contemporary wear for modern women. In ancient Indianan subcontinent, the motifs of nature and day to day life were shaped into work of art as sculpture, painting, embroidered fabric, and architectural monument. It inspired many artisans to interplay them with textured beautiful fabrics with rich intricate work in artistic ways to flatter maharajas and maharanis and win some appreciation and reward for their livelihood.

Ishka’s mission and intention is to capture the heritage of past for beautiful women of future, it is not limiting itself to luxury and opulence; Ishka is piece of art by a women and for a women who adorns it. Dina Thacker a self-taught sketcher, painter, fabric designer has put her talents to a test and embarked on creating a fusion of decorative elements, such as silk thread embroidery, pitta (beaten gold work), ghada work (traditional Persian hand embroidery), Kasab, Zari, Mirror, Sequence, Zardosi, Pearl and Kundan with rich fabrics like raw silk, georgettes, chiffon, velvet, net and blends of cotton to craft a contemporary women’s couture.

Ishka the name derived from her daughters Isha & Kavisa is the core of every creation by Dina Thacker. It is as unique as every other creation of god that remains an original work and nearly impossible to replicate, yet in harmony with all its surroundings and blending seamlessly into any imaginative piece of unstitched or stitched attire to adorn a women of all cultures and traditions.

The philosophy of Ishka is best defined as an original fusion work of authenticity and imagination by its designer to adorn women of status and grandeur for them to stand out and differentiate, just the way it was done for the maharaja and maharani, while keeping it relevant to its occasion and culture. It is an exceptional fine ensemble of fabrics, craftsmanship and cuts to create a distinct outfit for the envisioned women, as it was destined for her to adorn it. Ishka waits for the one who owns it and is not sold or tailored on order, it is a fashion milieu for matured women and a valuable piece of wealth that will remain a part of owner’s legacy.

Ishka is an amalgamation of contemporary and the classic based on philosophy of the modern royalty “the future of the past", the colour palette remains inspired by the opulence of the mogul era. The spectrum ranges from soft ivory shimmer pearl to muted golds, bronzes and shades of burnt brick that border on to burgundy and can't-do-without rani pink on to the sunset shades of coral, oranges and red. The designer has immersed herself with ethnic mughal motifs and architectural inspired shapes, arches and canopies that add distinct form to her designs, this collection will showcase silhouettes like elaborately embroidered lehnghas and saris with innovatively cut cholis and intricately embellished suits n tunics to create a perfect juxtaposition of the classical and modern.

Each technique of embellishment is unique and is handcrafted,it takes several hours of concentrated work to complete an ensemble. It uses skills passed down from generation to generation Dina has combined traditional Kashmiri thread embroidery with pita, dramatic crystal and zardosi embellishments to create multidimensional effects with each motif. Delicious crimsons, rich red, and effervescent pinks highlight the collection.

Ishka's collection is an ode to the powerful women and it truly exemplifies the women of today, indulgent, modern yet traditional, she is someone who manages to blend bits of vintage era and yet wear it well to the future.
