Music & Movement celebrates the colourful influence of dance in piano music, brought to you by four talented and prominent young pianists. From Baroque court and traditional folk dances, to the swirling ballrooms of Vienna, and to the more abstract, ecstatic dance of the cosmic variety, this year’s Piano Festival promises four uplifting evenings of passionate music-making.

After winning the National Youth Music Competition and an overseas music scholarship in his native South Africa, Daniel-Ben Pienaar moved to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music, where he is now a piano professor after receiving the prestigious Queen’s Commendation. Shunning the competition circuit in favour of self-imposed study and repertoire learning, he remained one of the musical world’s best-kept secrets until recently when he was thrust into the limelight with acclaimed recordings of music by Mozart, Bach and Gibbons, lauded for dazzling playing that is “fearsomely intelligent, articulate and insightful”. Pienaar will bring to his Singapore debut one of the most influential sets of pieces in the history of Classical Music, the first book of Bach’s monumental Well-Tempered Clavier.
