One of the wonders of the world, Cambodia's Angkor Wat was built by King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century and is greatly admired for its grandeur and architectural harmony. Critically acclaimed dance company Apsaras Arts presents an original production inspired by its famed bas-relief, a spectacular 70m long depiction of the Hindu legend Churning of the Milk Ocean.
Bringing the intricately sculpted relief to life, dancers and musicians paint a moving portrait of devas (heavenly beings) and asuras (demons) guided by Lord Vishnu, churning the ocean in search of the elixir of immortality.
The production will feature innovative choreography and original music score with the artistic guidance of Priyadarsini Govind (dance), Lalgudi GJR Krishnan and Rajkumar Bharathi (music), as well as live music by leading musicians from Singapore and India, and guest dancers from Malaysia and Sri Lanka. Conceived, Scripted, Designed and Directed by Aravinth Kumarasamy with the Artistic Direction of Neila Sathyalingam.
