Dragon boat race is a traditional festival of the ethnic Chinese. The annual Singapore Dragon Boat Festival at Bedok Reservior will be organized by the S’pore Dragon Boat Association (SDBA) on Sunday 18 August 2013.
The NTU dragon boat (both men & women’s) teams will be competing for the Prime Minister’s Cup at the Dragon Boat Festival. This is an annual challenge between the 4 local Universities ( NUS, NTU, SMU & SIM) and is one of the highlights of the event’s programme.
This event was first mooted by then-Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong in 1999 as a race between NTU and NUS, the Prime Minister’s Cup Challenge is often likened to the highly contested annual boating event between Oxford University and Cambridge University. Since 2008, it has expanded to include the 4 local universities and has established a Women’s Challenge as well.
